The city known as the "Pearl of the Aegean" or "Beautiful Izmir" is the third biggest city in Turkey after Istanbul and Ankara and has the second biggest port after Istanbul.
A city of palm - lined promenades, avenues and green parks set in sweeping curves along a circular bay, Izmir has an exceptionally mild climate and many fine hotels.
The city is a busy commercial and industrial center, which is the gateway to the Aegean Region. The magnificent coastline, lapped by the clear water of the Aegean sea, abounds in vast pristine beaches surrounded by olive groves, rocky crags and pinewoods. Dotted with idyllic fishing harbors, popular holiday villages, and -remains of ancient civilizations, the region offers an exceptionally
attractive venue for meetings, conferences and initiatives.

She is a city of worldwide recognition, embraced by Homer's love and poetry where various civilizations flourished and people have lived together in tolerance and brotherhood surrounded by her natural, historical and cultural merits . The city was named after an Amazon queen called Smyrna and was described by the famous historian Herodotus as "the city under the most sublime blue sky in a unique climate". The history mentions famous philosopher Aristotle telling Alexander the Great to visit Smyrna at least once in a lifetime not to miss anything.

IIzmir has always been the center of attention thanks to its surrounding sacred places of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The existence of holy places in the vicinity of Izmir, such as Mary's House proclaimed as a noted place of Pilgrimage, the Twin Churches dedicated to the Virgin Mary for the first time in history, the Basilica of St. John, the Grotto of Seven Sleepers and the Seven Churches of Revelation built to serve the spread of Christianity, has promoted the Faith Tourism in the area. All of these churches are mentioned in the Bible and Seljuk (Ephesus), Izmir (Smyrna), Bergama (Pergamon), Akhisar (Thyatira), Sart (Sardis), Alaşehir (Philadelphia), and Goncali (Laodicea) are various locations that shed light onto the history of religions.
